The Albatross Bay services the communities of Far North Queensland, usually on a weekly basis, but has been offline since mid-October completing 10-year, out-of-water renewal works.
The works included full blast and paint, mechanical repairs, tank cleaning, structural repairs and upgrades to cabins. These works were completed at the Cairns Tropical Reef Shipyard and led by Sea Swift’s New Builds & Dockings Project Manager, Jacob Zielenski, with assistance from the shipyard team, contractors, and support from shore-side Marine Technical Superintendent, Leon Evans, QLD Marine Management and the vessel crew. This team has managed to deliver the refit on time and on budget, a great achievement.
Sea Swift are committed to completing all vessel renewal, works and maintenance on shore in Australia. Along with the Local Jobs Local People program, Sea Swift is taking accountability for boosting career opportunities and jobs in the Far North. This is why Sea Swift is bringing back all vessel works to local shipyards, with experts who are local to the region.
The Albatross Bay is undergoing final works at Masons Wharf, which will be completed over the next two weeks, before being returned to normal operations mid December, 2024, returning to service the communities of the Torres Strait.
Jacob and the refit and renewal team completed a vessel analysis when the Albatross Bay was brought onto the hardstand, which allowed the works to be completed efficiently and effectively, to ensure the vessel’s time out of service was minimised. These works have rejuvenated the vessel and have enabled deliveries and operations to be completed safely and to the optimum level of performance.
