Group Capital Accountant

About the Role:
As part of the Finance Team, this position will partner with engineering and operations and lead the finance engagement and integration of finance processes and systems into the Asset Management lifecycle. 

This role is responsible for ensuring financial records are accurately maintained, ensuring transactions are captured correctly and accurately in financial systems.

What will you be doing:
  • Lead the finance elements for implementation of new systems and processes that facilitate reporting of capital investment project planning and management, utilisation of assets, preventative and corrective maintenance, accounting and taxation compliant fixed asset registers, supplier contracts registers and optimised disposal outcome. There is particular focus for implementing a new Fixed Asset Register and Right Of Use (ROU) Register (both currently in excel)
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Registers and ROU Register, reconciling to the General Ledger monthly.
  • Implement accounting and reporting requirements
  • Ensure new and relevant accounting standards are communicated and implemented
  • Support staff with capital accounting technical issues.
  • Assist with the month-end process, including timely preparation of journals and reconciliation files.
  • Assist in the preparation of high-quality commentary, variance analysis and explanatory notes for monthly, half-year and annual statutory capital reporting.
  • Assist with preparation of reports, position papers and explanatory material for executives and Board committees on technical accounting positions.
  • Participate in the interim and annual audit.
  • Assist with the Group’s tax compliance obligations including tax fixed asset register
  • Proactively identify gaps in the Group’s financial reporting and governance function and assist in implementing policy and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Qualified CPA/CA or CFA equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience, minimum 5 years, in accounting at a senior level
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and presentation of fixed assets and right of use registers and advise
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Competent knowledge of accounting policies and reporting requirements with demonstrated ability to apply and communicate knowledge in a clear and effective manner to audiences with various levels of accounting technical knowledge
  • Comprehensive knowledge of a financial accounting ERP (currently SAP Business One) Microsoft Office Applications and Power BI; payroll system (currently HR3) would be an advantage
  • High level communication (written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills.
